When we connect to and absorb the energy that surrounds us, we are able to tap into the wonders of the universe.

Aum symbol and prana

Understanding Energy

There are two main forces that are around and within us; electricity - the universal energy of the stars and planets and magnetism - the earthly gradational force. This Bio-electro Magnetism, is the life force that the Taoists know as chi and the Yogis refer to as Prana.

When we align ourselves to these forces we become a conduit through which we can absorb and digest these energies through the body, mind and spirit.

Usually we access this energy through food and air however there’s a way we can directly connect to the source of this primordial energy. We can use the mind and the hands to connect with this boundless energy. The taoists discovered that the more we open up to our internal energy, the more we are capable of connecting to the forces of energy around us.

Breath-work

Breathing is not something that most of us think about. As the breath is part of the autonomic system it’s something that happens automatically. Yet most of us are breathing incorrectly because our respiratory muscles become lazy!

The yogis believe that we are born with a certain number of breaths and the slower the breath the longer we live.

When our breath is fast and shallow we are usually in a state of tension, worry and fear which leads to poor health and depression. When we breath fast we only inhales and exhales small amounts of air which allows germs to accumulate in the lower areas of the lungs.

The main reason we breath is to floods the body with much needed oxygen. When we breath more deeply we remove stagnant air from the lower parts of the lungs and destroy the germs’ breeding ground. When we breath deeply we also give the abdominal organs, such as the liver and stomach, a lovely massage via the diaphragm.

Pranayama is the practice of controlled breathing in yoga, derived from the Sanskrit words prana (life force or vital energy) and ayama (extension or control). It involves various techniques that regulate the breath to enhance the flow of prana throughout the body, helping to balance the mind, body, and spirit.

Chakras on the energy body

The Energy Body

Yin yoga & Yoga Nidra help you delve deeper into the subtle layers of the body, releasing deeply rooted tension. Beyond the physical, it accesses the energetic body, impacting the flow of Prana or vital energy through channels known as nadis or meridians. These channels, aligned with chakras, are the energetic power centres of the subtle body.

Clearing energy blockages enhances underactive chakras and balances overactive ones, restoring the flow of energy and promoting overall well-being.
